Mr. Allred passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at his home in Brownwood, surrounded by loved ones.

James O. Allred was born on February 27, 1948, in Austin Texas, to Jeff Allred and Zelphia Williams Allred. He served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970, where he received a purple heart and an Honorable discharge.

On January 25, 1975, James married the love of his life, Linda Bible, and together, they made their home in Brownwood. He had worked for T.W.T. Molding Company for five years before going to work for the City of Brownwood delivering meals to the elderly, a job he dearly loved, because he was always meeting new people and it gave him an opportunity to help others. He retired due to health reasons after 17 years.

James was a kind and caring person who loved life, loved those around him and had a passion for helping others. The things that meant the most to him though, were his family, his church, and his friends, as well as caring for his animals and plants.

Those that knew James knew that he was a Christian man, and was always witnessing to those around him, and trying to win souls for the Lord, while never giving up on anyone. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for the last three months, but no matter how bad he felt, he continued to witness to those around him about God.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Allred of Brownwood ; two sons, James Allred Jr. and wife Julie, and Jamie Allred, both of Brownwood ; daughter, Stacey Brann and husband Rich, also of Brownwood ; granddaughter, Hailey; five grandsons, Marshall, Mason, Tristan, Justin and Chandler; great granddaughter Skye;  and a special niece, Fredna. He is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Allred of Arizona and Benny Daughtery of Bastrop ; two sisters, Peggy Slayton and Jeffrey Ryan of Brownwood and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and an abundance of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Zelphia; one brother; one sister; and his mother-in-law, Reba Bible.

Family and friends are invited and encouraged to sign the online guestbook at www.nethertonfuneralhome.com
