Graveside services for James Lewis Garton, 78, of Potosi, formerly of Brown County, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 23, at the May Cemetery with Pastor Brian Hall officiating. Burial will follow, under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home.
Mr. Garton passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at his home in Potosi.
James Lewis Garton was born on March 10, 1934, to Lafa Evan Garton and Carrie Belle Payne Garton in New Boston, Texas. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. James had lived in Brownwood for many years and was the owner of Garton Roofing. He loved gospel music and collecting musical instruments.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children: Donnie Denson of Brownwood, Lafe Maurice Garton and wife Karen, of Baytown, Kelly Lynn Garton of Potosi, Tammy Miller and husband Mike, of Houston, and Wakana Garton of Brownwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Boyd, Courtney, Angie, Chad, Leslie, Bryan, Jaysun, Laci and Bradley; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Alice and Frances, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lafa and Carrie Garton; a son, James Richard “Rick” Garton; granddaughter, Cassi Denson and his brother, Lee Garton.
James will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
