Funeral services for James C. Hampton, age 73, of Brownwood will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brown County, with Tom Washburn and Ted Kell officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Davis- Morris Funeral Home Chapel.
He passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at his home in Brownwood, Texas.
James was born on Aug. 21, 1937, in Ireland, Texas, to Clifford and Evelyn (Elms) Hampton. He was married to Betty (Fry) Hampton on Oct. 13, 1956, at Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood, Texas. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and active member Austin Avenue of Church of Christ.
James also enjoyed playing golf, and was in the restaurant business for several years before becoming a Transporter at Texas Youth Commission in Brownwood.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Hampton; a daughter; Teresa Beal and husband Steve Beal of Early, Texas
; a son, Jimmy Hampton and wife Tammi of Arlington, Texas; and six grandchildren, Ashley Thornberry and husband Carey, Jonathan Beal, Chantel Hampton, Stevi Hampton, Lyndin Hampton, and Rain Hampton. Also four great-grandchildren, Hayden Welch, Hallie Thornberry, Harper Thornberry, and Eleyna Oliva.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Evelyn Hampton, and a brother, Raymond Hampton.
