A graveside funeral service for Jacquelyn Rice Powell, age 90, of Dallas, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Heartland Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 12:00 noon.
Jacquelyn passed away on September 27, 2019, with her loving children at her side. Jacquelyn was born in Brownwood, Texas on September 23,1929, to Bernice and Irving Rice. Raised in their home filled with love and respect, Jacquelyn was fun-loving and happy with the values and moral compass reflective of her Heart-of-Texas hometown. Soon after graduating from Brownwood High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Powell, in September, 1947.
The couple made several moves during which they were blessed with three wonderful children. Their first son, Paul, was born in Slaton, Texas in 1948. Their only daughter, Marilyn, joined the family in Waco, Texas in 1953 and their second son, Tim, was born in San Antonio in the fall of 1956. Soon after, with their new family in tow, Jacquelyn and Bill headed to Dallas where they would live most of their lives.
Jacquelyn and Bill embraced the city life and world that Dallas offered to a corporate executive’s family. Jacquelyn was the epitome of a homemaker in every positive sense of the word. While she focused most of her time on their home, she was always well a-tuned to the cultural happenings in Big D and the world. A light-hearted, joyful and loving spirit, she made all that were in her presence feel wanted and accepted. Bill and Jacquelyn would eventually move to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1970 and subsequently returned to Dallas in 1977. At each house in which they lived along the way, Jacquelyn made a home to raise their children that was vibrant, loving and structured.
Being in Jacquelyn’s home was like the best days of Spring. Bright, fresh and immaculately clean, it was always bustling and blossoming with excitement and optimism. Jacquelyn remained traditional and true to her own upbringing as there were never harsh words or discontent. Tranquility and love always filled her home for all that lived and visited within. An excellent cook, Jacquelyn was known for her classic casseroles, traditional Italian and Mexican fare and a breakfast that raised wonder as to how so simple could be so good.
Jacquelyn loved her family so much and was an active part in the lives of her children and grandchildren, always putting family first. It’s a testament to her love of family that the weekend prior to her passing, her family and friends hosted a party celebrating her 90th birthday.
Jacquelyn is preceded in her passing by her dearly loved husband Bill, her mother and father, and her older brother Harrell. She is survived by her son Paul and spouse Christy, grandchildren Catherine and Caroline, daughter Marilyn, and youngest son Tim and spouse Vikki, grandchildren Austin and Cassidee. In addition, her nephew Rell Rice and spouse Betty, and their son Trevor Rice and spouse Whitney, and daughter Julia Morgan and her spouse Trey.
The family greatly appreciates Brookdale Lake Highlands and Brookdale Hospice, Eunice, Sherry and Jackie in particular, for their loving care of Jacquelyn, our Mother.
