The American Southwest Conference announced today the 2013 football All-Conference teams and awards and the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets landed 13 players and a coach on the lists and individual awards.
Howard Payne head coach Roger Geise (pictured left) was named the American Southwest Conference Co-Coach of the Year along with UMHB head coach, Pete Fredenburg. Roger Geise led the Yellow Jackets to a 4-6 overall record after going 1-9 in his first season as head coach last year.
Colby Mica – Second Team Offense – Wide Receiver
Colby led the American Southwest Conference in receptions per game at 7.6 and was third in the conference in receiving yards per game at 79.2 per outing.
Michael Watford – Second Team Offense – Offensive Tackle
Michael started all 10 games for the Jackets. He was a part of a HPU offensive that allowed a conference low 13 sacks on the year.
Zarron Dove – Second Team Offense – Running back
Zarron finished fifth in the conference in rushing and was in the top ten in scoring and receptions and reception yards per game.
Donald Preston – Second Team Defense – Defensive Line
Donald finished the season with three sacks, 22 tackles (five for loss) and fumble recoveries.
Josh Eppler – Second Team Defense – DB and Honorable Mention Defense – Punter
Josh was second on the team in tackles with 75 (top 15 in the ASC), with ten pass breakups and one interception. Punting, he had 41 kicks for 1,532 yards, a 37.4 average.
Jordan Shaw – Second Team Defense – Defensive back
Jordan finished 10th in the ASC in tackles with 78. He had four pass breakups, one interception and two forced fumbles.
Patrick Dillard – Honorable Mention Offense – Offensive Guard
Patrick started all 10 games for the Jackets. He was a part of a HPU offensive that allowed a conference low 13 sacks on the year.
Richard Young – Honorable Mention Offense – Quarterback
Richard led the ASC in total offense averaging 295.6 yards per game and in passing yards per game at 278.8 per game. He was second the ASC in pass efficiency at 136.6.
Tristan Fuentes – Honorable Mention Offense – Return Specialist
Tristan finished third in the American Southwest Conference in kick returns. He had 21 returns for 509 yards and a long of 88 yards. He also caught 13 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown.
Jason Disney – Honorable Mention Defense – Linebacker
Jason led the American Southwest Conference in tackles for loss with 20.5 on the year. He was sixth in the ASC in total tackles with 83 and finished fifth in sacks with eight.
Bo Ross – Honorable Mention Defense – Linebacker
Bo finished third on the team in tackles with 74, five for loss. He also had two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Maurice Young – Honorable Mention Defense Defensive back
Maurice finished fifth in the ASC in pass breakups with 15. He had four interceptions on the season good for second in the ASC. He had 47 total tackles, four for loss.
Xavier McFalls – Outstanding Sportsman Team of the Year
Xavier finished with 49 total tackles, three for loss, along with five pass breakups.
