The Howard Payne men’s basketball team committed 27 turnovers in a 72-47 loss to Sul Ross State University in American Southwest Conference action Tuesday afternoon.
Sul Ross finished the first period with a 15-0 run and held a 43-20 halftime advantage. Sul Ross extended their lead to as much as 33 points in the second and went on to hand HPU a 72-47 loss.
Sul Ross shot 46% from the field and held Howard Payne to just 38% shooting.
Howard Payne was led by Brandon Irwin with 12 points followed by Keith Perry with 9.
Andy Hulsey led Sul Ross with a game high 21 points, he was 4 of 4 from behind the arc. Travis Johnson and Jimmy Martinez added 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 2-10 overall and 2-6 in ASC play, while Sul Ross improves to 4-8, 3-5 in ASC action.
Howard Payne plays this Thursday in the Brownwood Coliseum against the University of Texas at Tyler. It will be a 5:00 pm start time and all admission will be free.
