Howard Payne University QB Zach Hubbard threw three interceptions and the Yellow Jackets fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 45-3 in American Southwest Conference action.
Howard Payne had 261 yards of total offense (237 yards passing) to UMHB’s 441 yards (252 yards rushing).
Mary Hardin-Baylor scored first on a 36-yard field by Alan Munoz with 6:03 left in the first quarter. As the quarter closed UMHB scored on a 7-yard run by Quincy Adams, extra point blocked by blocked, 9-0 UMHB.
Midway through the second, the Jackets forced a UMHB fumble but threw an interception on the next play. It led to a UMHB touchdown with 3:44 left in the half, 16-0 UMHB.
The Jackets forced another UMHB fumble with less than two minutes to play in the half. Howard Payne’s fourth down attempt to score from the UMHB 21 yard line fell short and UMHB led 16-0 at the half.
It was all UMHB in the second half as they racked up 26 unanswered points. The Jackets finally got on the scoreboard on a Mitchell Bailey field goal with 12:08 remaining in the game, 42-3 UMHB.
UMHB tacked on another field goal in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score of 45-3.
Zach Hubbard was 29 of 50 passing for 223 yards and three interceptions. Cody Hambrick had 9 catches for 72 yards followed by Andre Dean with 10 catches for 62 yards.
Demetrius Cody led all with 11 tackles followed by Germaine Gilbert with 10 and Talyne Bitner with 9.
UMHB was led by Quincy Daniels with 18 carries for 110 yards and one TD. Damian Davis had three catches for 75 yards and one TD.
Howard Payne stands 2-7 overall and UMHB improves 8-0 overall.
The Jackets will be at home next week versus East Texas Baptist University in their season finale at Gordon Wood Stadium.
