hpusoccerlogoHoward Payne University soccer team used the keeper tandem of Malcolm Framjee and Kyle Huesing to draw 1-1 with Lubbock Christian University.

Neither team found the goal in the first half. HPU had 6 shots to LCU’s 4 and fouls were even at four. It was a half where both teams were feeling each other out, and not to many chances were taken at goal.

It wasn’t until the 66 minute that the Yellow Jackets broke through and took the lead 1-0. Cameron Jannati would connect with Shane Cazad on a pass from the opposite side of the box to score the only goal for HPU.

The HPU defense would not be able to hold their lead, when fifteen minutes later a free kick from Jorge Martinez of LCU settled down in the box and was finished by Dustin Jones, for the 1-1 tie in the 80 minute. After Framjee’s great game at goal with 9 saves, he would leave at the 83 minute after injuring himself making a save. Kyle Huesing took over at keeper to finish the second half and preserve the 1-1 tie with 4 saves during the overtime periods.

LCU dominated with 16 shots on goal to HPU’s 5. Corner kicks were 13-9 in favor of LCU, and fouls ended even at 13.

The Yellow Jackets had 4 yellow cards during the game and LCU also had 2 of their own. There were no red cards. Four of the six cards came in a 5 minute span late in the second half.

Howard Payne’s record goes to 1-0-1 for the season. LCU is at 2-0-1.

Their next game will come at 4:00 pm Saturday, Sept. 11 at Citizens National Bank Soccer Field.


The Howard Payne women’s soccer started fast but were unable to keep up with Lubbock Christian University in a 4-1 loss.

Just one and a half minutes into the game, after a mix up deep in the defense, Lauren Hatcher for HPU received a pass from Leslie Jones in the box to beat the keeper and grabbed the early 1-0 lead.

Just a minute later, the Chaparrals of LCU would level things out. An LCU breakaway goal to Peta-Gaye Soman at the other end and made it 1-1.

From there the physicality of the game increased and neither team gave up anything easy. LCU would break the tie though at the 28 minute off a free kick just inside mid-field. Stacy Ann Johnson would find Brown-Longoria to finish and take the lead 1-2.

Just over a minute into the second half, LCU would increase the lead when Soman drew foul a inside the box giving S. Johnson the penalty kick to finish and take the game to 3-1.

The same thing happened in the 78 minute with Soman drawing the foul, S. Johnson getting the penalty to make the final score 4-1.

Fouls in the game would be LCU 15, HPU 14 and Howard Payne had 4 shots on goal to LCU’s 6.

Adrienne Walker for HPU finished with 2 saves. Lacy Burress for the Chaparrals finished the game with 3.

The Lady Jackets start the season 0-1-0, and LCU women go to 3-0-0.

The next game for the Howard Payne is at 2:00 pm Monday, Sept. 6 at Citizens National Bank Soccer Field against Huston-Tillotson.
