The Howard Payne University baseball team got a walk-off RBI double from Jordan Hammontree to win game one 6-5 over Southwestern Assemblies of God University in extra innings in non-conference action. In game two, the Yellow Jackets fell 4-0 to the Lions.

Finding themselves down 5-3 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Jackets got runs in the sixth and seventh frames to force extra innings. It came to the bottom of the ninth when Sam Dollahite would reach on an error by the SAGU short stop and advance to second. Jordan Hammontree then drove a shot to right center to score Dollahite on the RBI double and 6-5.

Dustin Kelver got his first win as a Yellow Jackets throwing the eighth and ninth frames. Hammontree had two RBIs and Houston Holmes also had two on a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

The Jackets only managed two hits in game two as SAGU pitcher Zack Worrell got the complete game win. Ryan Klose and Dusty Taylor got the hits for the Jackets. Carlton Brown got the loss for HPU, throwing 2.2 innings in the start.

Howard Payne is now 9-13 overall and Southwestern Assemblies stands at 11-16 overall. The Jackets will have a home conference series with Schreiner University this weekend. The Friday single game will begin at 2:00 pm.
