One goal is all it took for the Howard Payne University men’s soccer team to get their tenth win of the season in a 1-0 shutout over the University of Dallas Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Freshman, Reese Lawson scored the only goal of the game early on in the 4th minute of the game on an assist right up the middle from the American Southwest Conference assist leader, Cameron Jannati. The goal was Lawson’s third of the year and the assist gives Jannati ninth.
For the rest of the game, neither team would score. It was a combined 11 save shutout for the Yellow Jackets. HPU keeper, Nicholas Rayburn kept goal in the first half with 4 saves and Ryan Young in the second half with 4 saves of his own.
The Yellow Jackets finished with 6 shots on goal, while the Crusaders had 11. Fouls ended HPU 9 and UDallas 3.
HPU moves to 10-4-1 overall on the season. UDallas goes to 7-9-0. The next game for the men is at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 against Texas Lutheran at Citizens National Bank soccer field in Brownwood.
