The award, in its eighth academic year, honors the member institution(s) in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) from the conference’s 12 member institutions vote on the recipients.
For the first time in the awards’ history, three teams were selected in a three-way tie as Howard Payne, Concordia Texas, and LeTourneau won the conference’s SAAC team sportsmanship award in men’s basketball. HPU takes home its fourth honor and first since 2011. They also won the award in 2010 and 2008.
Howard Payne finished the season at 15-12 overall and lost in the second round of the ASC championship tournament to eventual winner and tournament host East Texas Baptist by just two points.
