HPUlogoThe Howard Payne men’s basketball team picked up their second win on the season in a 73-30 victory over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon.

The Jackets jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead. Louisiana College did battle back and both teams shared the lead in the first half. Howard Payne used a short rally to end the half and led 40-31 at the break.

HPU never gave up the led in the second half. LC did rally late and cut the HPU lead to one, 68-67 with 1:21 left in the game. Senior forward Keith Perry hit key free throws down the stretch and the Jackets secured the 73-70 win.

The Jackets dominated in the paint outscoring LC 34-16. HPU shot 47% from the field to LC’s 42%.

Keith Perry along with John Bryant off the bench each had 14 points. Henry Valladares and Daniel Bubel followed with 10 points each. LC was led by Jarrod Jackson with 26 and Chukwuma Ekeh added 12.

HPU improves to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in ASC play while LC falls to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in ASC action.

The Jackets will play again on Monday in Clinton, Miss against Mississippi College
