SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran University defeated Howard Payne University 7-3 in American Southwest Conference action at Katt-Isbel field Friday afternoon.
Texas Lutheran took a quick 3-0 lead after three innings. The Jackets chipped away at the TLU lead with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
The Jackets scored in the fourth on a Jake Dean sacrifice fly to bring home Ryan Breeding. In the fifth Taylor Zambreski singled in Kyle Lloyd and in the sixth it was Rey Rosales scoring on a wild pitch from third.
TLU responded to the 3-3 game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh.
HPU’s Johnathan Morris got the loss pitching 5.2 innings, striking out one and walking four. TLU starting pitcher Brad Orosey departed after the eighth, with TLU in front 7-3 to pick up the win.
HPU dropped to 10-9 overall and to 1-3 in the ASC West and TLU improved to 16-5 overall and to 3-1 in the ASC West Division.
TLU and HPU play a noon doubleheader, weather permitting, on Saturday at Katt-Isbel.
