jacketbasketball_logoHoward Payne’s Brandon Irwin scored 29 in a 78-83 loss to McMurry University Saturday afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Going into the half the Jackets lead by 4 points, 42-46. Then in the first 10 minutes of the second Howard Payne went cold and were outscored 26-15, trailing 68-61 with 9:49 to play.

McM shot 43 percent on 30-70 shooting and were 17 of 30 from the line. HPU shot 49 percent on 28 of 57 shooting and were near perfect from the free-throw line going 14 of 15.

Brandon Irwin led all scorers with 29 points, he was 6 of 10 from behind the three-point line. Behind him was Keith Perry with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. John Bryant added 12. Jeremie Hart had 24 points for McMurry, Jamal Anene had a double double on 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Howard Payne drops to 2-15 on the season and 2-11 in the ASC, McMurry goes to 11-5 overall and 9-3 in the ASC.

The next game for the Yellow Jackets is Thursday at 7:30pm, Jan. 28 against Schreiner at the Brownwood Coliseum.
