PINEVILLE, Louisiana –Howard Payne University was tied 14-14 with Louisiana College at the end of the first quarter but LC racked up four unanswered touchdowns to win 62-28 in American Southwest Conference football action Saturday evening.
HPU quarterback Zach Hubbard scored on two short runs in the first quarter to tie up Louisiana College 14-14.
After four unanswered touchdowns, LC held a 35-14 halftime advantage on 351 yards of total offense. Howard Payne finished the half with 148 yards of offense.
LC total 674 yards (491 passing) of total offense in the game. The Jackets managed just 245 yards (172 yards passing) for the game.
HPU kick returner and running back Brandon Young had a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. He was also the Jackets top rusher with 35 yards.
Yellow Jacket punter Cote Schacherl had five punts for 218 yards, a 43.6 yard average.
The Jackets now stand at 2-5 overall and 1-4 in ASC action. LC is at 3-3 on the year 3-1 in conference play. Howard Payne will be at home next Saturday taking on Mississippi College at 1:00 pm.
