The Howard Payne men’s basketball lost 102-88 to Concordia University Texas at the Coliseum Thursday evening in American Southwest Conference action.
The score was even at the half, 45-45. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor.
The game was still tied at the 10:03 mark of the second half 63-63. Concordia then outscored HPU 20-7 over the next 5 minutes and went on defeat HPU 102-88.
The Yellow Jackets committed 25 turnovers in the game, and shot 32-64 from the floor for 50 percent.
The Tornados of Concordia were 38-73 for the game for 52 percent from the floor. That includes 50 percent shooting from the arc (9-18).
Brandon Irwin led all with a new career high 32 points with eight rebounds. Three others got double digits- Henry Valladares 13, Keith Perry 10, and Quentin Calloway 10.
Brad Walker led the Concordia with 21 points, behind him was Nick Haynes with 17 and Tayler Jacobs with 19.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 6-18 overall and 6-14 in the ASC. Concordia goes to 15-9 overall and 13-7 in the ASC. The loss eliminates Howard Payne from ASC tournament contention.
Their final game of the season is at 3:00 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Brownwood Coliseum against Univ. of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
