The Howard Payne University football team only managed 122 yards of total offense in a 57-7 loss to #4 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Adrian Lighteard, who rushed for a team high 45 yards on 12 carries, scored the only touchdown for the Jackets on a 15 yard run with 4:46 left in the game. The touchdown capped a 12 play 63 yard drive for Howard Payne.
Mary Hardin-Baylor scored on their first play from scrimmage and did not let up from there scoring 57 unanswered points. UMHB had 440 yards of total offense, 243 on the ground and 197 in the air.
Tyler Jones led Howard Payne in tackles with nine. Victor Gonzaleshad eight with a sack and J.D. King followed with seven. Yellow Jacket QB Thomas Head was 8 of 15 passing for 108 yards.
UMHB’s LiDarral Bailey was 5 of 7 for 117 yards and 2 TDs. Jake Sims also saw snaps recording 80 yards on 4 of 7 passing. Caleb Moore had 72 yards on 14 carries scoring three TDs.
Eight Yellow Jackets played in their final home game of their careers- Jared Shaw, Joe Carmack, Demetrius Cody, Eric Bunch, Cote Schacherl, Brandon Young, Jhonoven Pati, Nathaniel Pepe.
The Yellow Jackets are now 1-8 overall and 1-6 in ASC play. UMHB improves to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in conference. Howard Payne will finish the regular season next Saturday at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.
