The Howard Payne University men’s soccer team tied the game at 2-2 in the second half but gave up two goals to lose 4-2 to Hardin-Simmons University Friday at Citizens National Bank Field.
HPU’s Patrick Barkerstarted the scoring in the game when he knocked in a loose ball in the box in the 34th minute. Hardin-Simmons answered back in the 38th minute on a Kevin McNeal goal.
Zach Johnson gained HSU a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute on a Chris Hunter assist. The Jackets tied it back up just four minutes later when Reese Lawsonfound Shane Cazad who netted a shot from 30 yards out.
Hardin-Simmons then got a goal from Cole McCarter in the 60th minute and another from Tyler Murry to bring the final outcome to 4-2 Hardin-Simmons.
The Jackets are now 5-6 overall and 3-5 in ASC action. Hardin-Simmons stands at 6-3-3 overall and 6-1-1 in conference.
Howard Payne will play McMurry University on Saturday at 3:00 pm. The HPU seniors will be honored before the game.
The Howard Payne University women’s soccer team lost 8-1 to the defending NCAA III national champions Hardin-Simmons University in American Southwest Conference action Friday afternoon.
It was 7-0 Hardin-Simmons before Howard Payne was able to get on the scoreboard. HPU’s Shannon Costello scored on a free kick from 35 yards out to make the game 7-1 HSU in the 68th minute.
The goal was only the second scored against HSU in conference play this season. Hardin-Simmons outshot Howard Payne 22-3 in the game.
With the loss the Lady Jackets are still in a strong postion in the conference standings at 6-4 overall and 5-3 in ASC action. Hardin-Simmons is now 11-1 overall and 8-0 in conference.
Howard Payne will play McMurry University on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The HPU seniors will be honored at the end of the contest.
