ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne men’s soccer team scored two second half goals to tie the game only to fall on two late Hardin-Simmons goals 4-2 Tuesday in conference action.
Hardin-Simmons gained a 2-0 halftime advantage after scoring in the 26th and 40th minutes. HSU outshot the Jackets 16-5 in the first half.
David Rucker got Howard Payne on the scoreboard netting a penalty kick in the 61st minute. Edgard Rodriguez would tie the game just six minutes later off a free kick from 30 yards out.
Hardin-Simmons then put the game away scoring two goals over the next seven minutes, 74th and 79th minutes.
Ryan Young got the loss for HPU recording eight saves in 90 minutes of work in goal.
Howard Payne is now 3-8-1 overall and Hardin-Simmons stands at 6-6 overall. The Jackets will play next at home versus LeTourenau University on Friday at 3:00 pm
Forward Leslie Jones scored the only goal for Howard Payne in a 5-1 loss to Hardin-Simmons University in conference action Tuesday afternoon.
Hardin-Simmons jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead after scoring goals in the 4th, 9th and 29th minutes. HSU outshot the Lady Jackets 23-1 in the first half.
Leslie Jones would get the Lady Jackets on the scoreboard netting her 10th goal of the year in the 70th minute. Jones scored on a long ball over the top from Lauren Wilmer.
Courtney Beene got the loss for HPU playing all 90 minutes and gaining nine saves in goal.
Howard Payne is now 4-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Hardin-Simmons stands at 11-0-1 overall. Howard Payne will play next at home this Friday versus LeTourneau University at 1:00 pm.
