Jack Benton went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2015.  Heaven’s gain is our loss.  He will be greatly missed by many.  His life was greatly influenced by his love for the Lord.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a hard-working Christian man.  He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He loved family gatherings and was the life of the party.   He was an excellent role model to his family, and had a great sense of humor that kept everyone laughing.

He was born in Jayton, Texas on May 2, 1936 to Alfred and Myrtle Hawkins Benton.  He attended Andrews High School and Sul Ross University.  After his graduation he began his career working with his father at the Benton Lumber Company.

He met and married LaVerne Lewis on June 25, 1956 in Andrews, Texas.  Their love and friendship never stopped growing.  God joined them as one flesh which set the perfect example to their children of what a marriage should be.

They moved to Brownwood in 1960 where he worked for the Brownwood Fire Department for 10 years.  He then returned to the work he loved as a carpenter until he retired at the age of 75.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, LaVerne; two sons, Greg Benton of Sherman, Texas; Mike and Karen Benton of Bangs, Texas; two daughters, Tina and Steve Barnett of Brownwood, Texas; Kristy and Vince Gilbert of Pottsville, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren;  brother, John Benton of Dallas; sister, Katie Boddie of Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews, and countless friends.  He was proceeded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and father and mother in law, Frank and Emma Lewis.

He left a void in our lives that will never be filled.   He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Family services will be held at a later date.
