Jack Bennie, age 67, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Cremation is under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.
Jackie Wayne Bennie was born on November 2, 1945, in Brownwood, Texas to Marjorie Lee Denton Bennie and Jesse Matlock “Buck” Bennie. He retired from 3M after 34 years in 2002. He served in the US Navy with his last command being on the USS Constellation. A member of VFW and Central Texas Treasure Club, Jack loved metal detecting, fishing, gardening, drinking beer, cook-offs and spending time with friends and family. He was very fond of the Brownwood Community Garden and helped in many ways. Jack had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, Candy and Bandit, Hershey, Shadow, Chili and Pester Kitty.
He was preceded in death by his father Buck Bennie, Brother Calvin Bennie and his wife Dorothy, Nephews Douglas and David Jennings, Sister Shirley Jennings and husband Lloyd. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Janet Ingram Bennie of Brownwood, Children Sherri Salter and Ellis of Brownwood, Christine Bennie Peace of Santa Fe, Tx., Jeffrey Bennie of Brownwood, Bobby Bennie and wife Lisa of Austin, Lisa Bennie Clark of Brownwood, Jeanice Lancaster Padilla and husband Gene of Albuquerque, NM. Grandchildren Brandi Curl of Houston, Jake and Jessica Salter of East Brewton, Alabama, Brandon and Sarah Peace of Santa Fe, Tx., Nicholas Bennie of Brownwood and Grace Bennie of Austin, Victoria and Joel Padilla of Albuquerque, NM., Matthew Padilla of Bernalillo, NM. Great- Granddaughter Lily Beltran of Albuquerque, NM., his mother Marjorie Bennie of Brownwood. He will be sadly missed by Family and Friends. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 28th at 7 pm at Jack and Jan Bennie’s Place.
