Early High School Lady Longhorn basketball player Katie Isom signed to play on the collegiate level with Schreiner University in Kerrville on Tuesday.

Schreiner Head Women’s Basketball Coach Matt Wallis sent a statement regarding Isom joining the Schreiner basketball program.

“We are excited to add Katie to our program. She is an all-around great basketball player,” Wallis said.  “Katie is a strong powerful player with tremendous rebounding and scoring ability which will fit in with our style of play. We couldn’t be happier.”

Wallis stated that Isom has a unique skill and that he is looking forward to being her coach.

“There’s just something about Katie that is special and I am excited to be her coach,” said Wallis.  “To have her join our team and have the skills that she does is a great win for the university and our program.  Katie could be one of the most talented players to ever wear a Schreiner uniform.”

Isom was joined by her coaches and family for this special occasion.

Coach Kristi Sandoval said she was very excited for Isom and is encouraged that she will do well at Schreiner.

“Katie is a very good player, a very good kid and is a very coachable kid,” said Sandoval.  “She is going to go on to do great things.  She’s a great kid and we’re going to miss her.”

Her parents, Ron and Susan Isom, were also proud of the day’s event.

“We’re excited,” said Mr. Isom.  “These are some very exciting times.”

Isom plans to study special education while playing basketball at Schreiner University.  She will be joining another EHS graduate, Baile Harris who is also on the team.
