Irene Janie Croker (Hill) died Sunday December 20, 2009 after a long illness at Western Hills care facility in Comanche Texas. She was 92.
She was born at Verdi, Atacosa County Texas on April 28th, 1917 to Eugene and Matti Popham. She grew up in and around the Fairview area until she married Leslie Harrison Croker December 21st, 1935. After moving to Comanche with her family she attended Texas Barber College in Ft. Worth, Texas where she became a licensed barber. From Comanche the family moved to Brownwood where they opened Croker’s Barber Shop on Coggin Avenue, she and her husband Leslie owned and operated the shop for 38 years. She loved being on the farm, sewing, and especially quilting. After the death of her husband Leslie in October of 1982 she married Willie Ben Hill in September of 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Troy Leslie Coker and wife Peggy of Grandview, Tx, and Gary Doyle Croker and wife Linda of Comanche Tx; a sister, Velma Jaksik and husband Victor of Loire, Tx; and two brothers, R.A. Popham and wife Evelyn of Moody, Tx, and Kenneth Popham and wife Flo of Fairview, Tx; eight grandsons, Shane, Christopher, Leslie, Terry, Dewane, Mark, Curtis, and Tim; and a host of greatgrandsons and great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Matti Popham, husband Leslie Croker; husband Willie Hill; a son, Roger Croker; four brothers, Clarence, Leslie, Herman, and Richard Popham; a sister Ethel Taylor; and two grandchildren Kimberly and Gregory.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Llano, Texas with Reverend Rick Cundief officiating, burial to follow in Llano Cemetery under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home.
