browncountyhealthcenterThe Brownwood/Brown County Health Department reminds area residents that is not too late to get an influenza vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control the flu season typically peaks in February, but can last through May. Getting a flu vaccine is the single most effective measure people can take to protect themselves from the flu. The CDC recommends that everyone age 6 months and over get a flu vaccine. It is especially important for the very young, the elderly and those who are immunocompromised.

The Brownwood/Brown County Health Department has flu vaccine available for adults and children. They have private injectable flu vaccine available for adults and children who are insured. They also have state-funded vaccine available in both the injectable form and nasal mist for children and adolescents who qualify for the Texas Vaccines for Children program.

The health department is waiving the administration fee for the flu mist for children or adolescents who qualify for the Texas Vaccines for Children program through February 17, 2016 while supplies last.

No appointment is required to get a flu vaccine at the health department. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8-11:30 am and 1-4:30 pm. The health department will be closed on Monday, January 18 for Martin Luther King Day.
