Funeral mass for Inez Guthrie, age 92 of Lubbock, formerly of Brookesmith, will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 16, 2009 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Msgr. Benedict Zientek officiating. Interment will follow in the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. Guthrie died Thursday, November 12, 2009 in VistaCare Hospice in Lubbock.
Inez was born on August 25, 1917 in Santa Anna to Roy and Lillie Mae (Williams) Tucker. She worked as a nurse for Dr. J.B. Stephens for 20 years. Inez married Marvin L. Guthrie on October 31, 1969 in Santa Anna. He died in 1999. Following their retirement, they farmed and ranched in the Trickham and Brookesmith area.
Inez was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lubbock.
Inez is survived by a brother George Tucker of Ruston, Louisiana, a sister, Sarah Williams of Lubbock, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Arthur Tucker and Roy E. Tucker.
