fireworks2Brownwood area organizations and businesses are hosting a few events to celebrate Independence Day over the long holiday weekend.  The public is invited to attend the following events:

Friday, July 1st

1st Annual Boat Parade

The boat parade will begin at 8 PM and boats are asked to line up at the Lake Brownwood dam prior to the start of the parade.   Registration fee is $5 and entries can register at Wild Duck Marina in advance by calling 325-784-7100.

Boats are encouraged to be decorated during the parade in patriotic theme, and prizes will be awarded for some of the best decorated.    Any decorations that may impede visibility or normal navigation must be removed at the conclusion of the parade.

Saturday, July 2nd

Lake Brownwood Fireworks Show

Hosted by Wild Duck Marina who is hosting their 5th Annual 4th of July Bash.  Live music will begin at 8 PM and the fireworks will start at about 9:30 PM with more live music to follow.

 

Admission for the live music at Wild Duck is $20.00 per head.  Call 325-784-7100 for more info.
Fireworks show will be visible from many locations across the Lake Brownwood area.

Monday, July 4th
RiverFest

The 2nd annual RiverFest will be held from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. on July 4th at Riverside Park in Brownwood.  RiverFest is a family fun event which includes raft races on the Pecan Bayou, various arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, Heartland Cruisers Car Show, barbecue cook-off, 13 bounce houses for kids (ages 4-12) and much more. For more information go to: http://www.brownwoodjcs.com/riverfest2016.  Entry fee for RiverFest is $2 for children, and $3 for adults.  RiverFest is sponsored by The Brownwood Jaycees & Chick-Fil-A.

Children’s Activities will feature 13 inflatables, 7 of which are large water slides, according to event organizers.  Children can also enjoy Knockerball.  Parents are encouraged to bring their children in swimsuits and reminded to be sure to bring sunscreen and a towel.

To join in the fun of the Chick-Fil-A Raft Race, CLICK HERE.  Entry fee is $25 per raft.  Entries will be judged in categories of single, double and group rafts.  Awards for fastest raft, best looking and most creative use of materials will be given in each category.  A Titanic award will be given to one raft from all categories that has the most dramatic sinking.

The Brownwood Jaycee’s RiverFest Cook Off is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society.  The cook off will be held from Sunday, July 3rd through Monday, July 4th at Riverside Park with check in between 9-11 a.m. on Sunday.  Entry fees for the cook off can be mailed in or paid with credit card by phone.  There will be a cookers meeting at 6 p.m. on Sunday in the BBQ tent near the pavilion.  Turn in times are on Monday:  Beans 11 a.m., Chicken 12 noon, Ribs 1 p.m. and Brisket 2 p.m. in the BBQ tent.  Awards will be given between 4-5 p.m. (schedule depends on number of entries). VFW Independence Day Ceremony

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Auxiliaries will observe Independence Day by conducting a flag retirement ceremony at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 4th.  The public is invited to attend.  The observance will be held at the VFW Post at 2300 Stephen F. Austin in Brownwood. The ceremony will consist of the lowering of the retiring flag and raising the new National Ensign.
