The City of Brownwood is getting closer to their goal of finding their first hired Chief of Police. 21 applicants from across the state applied for the position, and city officials then met with the Police Officers Association who assisted in ranking the applicants. The applicants have been narrowed to a field of the top eight candidates. The city will begin the interview process next week, and the goal is to have a Chief in place to begin work in early May.
City Manager Bobby Rountree will make his recommendation to the city council on Tuesday for an Interim Police Chief to be named as a result of current Chief Virgil Cowin’s early retirement.
