KERRVILLE, Texas – The Howard Payne women’s basketball team used a huge second half to defeat Schreiner University 74-51 Saturday at the Eddington Center.
Full court pressure gave Schreiner an early 16-7 lead six minutes into the game. Schreiner led by as much as 11 in the first but the Lady Jackets were able to cut the Schreiner lead to five, 29-24 at the break.
A Clarissa Krum three-pointer with 17:22 to play gave HPU the lead back at 31-29. HPU continued to push and posted 15-0 run to start the second half giving the Lady Jackets a 39-29 lead with 15:18.
The Lady Jackets held Schreiner to just three second half field goals and rolled to a 74-51 win. After shooting 34% in the first half, HPU shot 50% in the second and held Schreiner to just 13% in the same half.
Clarissa Krum led all scorers with 18 points and five rebounds. Brittany Roberson had 16 points and seven rebounds. Tresta Donahoo added 14 points. Jasmin Thomas grabbed five steals.
Bailey Harris was the only Schreiner player in double digits with 12 points.
Howard Payne improves to 12-5 overall and 9-4 in ASC play, while Schreiner falls to 5-12 overall and 3-10 in conference.
Howard Payne will be back at home next week taking on Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday and Concordia University Texas on Saturday.
