Hubert Wayne Fisher, 72, of Brownwood and duty stations around the world, beloved husband and best friend of Joyce (Cole) Fisher for 48 years, slipped away peacefully, in true Wayne style. Surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved on April 3, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Sherrie, sister Barbara Talley, his parents Doris Densman Stevens and William H. “Bud” Fisher. He was born in Brownwood, Texas on June 24, 1941 and attended school in Brownwood however he graduated from May High School in 1960. He went on to further his education by attending Howard Payne University only to be drawn in by a bright red Marine Corps van with a recruiter in tow, which began a 30 year career.
Wayne’s Marine career took him through many schools including Embassy and Recruiting schools, the Vietnam War and various other countries and states. Once he retired his background lead him to work for GM-Delco Electronics, which took him back to Saudi Arabia. Missing his best friend, Joyce, he retired again only to come home to 29 Palms Marine Corp Base, Ca. to work in the Civil Service never truly changing jobs. Although Wayne had many jobs and careers over his lifetime he always enjoyed the land and nature, the Fisher heritage. He loved camping, fishing, and farming which lead to his career of goat rancher.
Besides his wife, Joyce, Wayne is survived by his two daughters Carol Ormand and husband Chad of Harker Heights, and Terri and Stephanie Fisher of Bakersfield, Ca. his grand children Anthony Rodgers, Erin Golbow, Marrisa Ormand, Andrew Rodgers, Harper Fisher, Amber and Elizabeth Ormand and great granddaughters Emma Ormand and MacKenzie Patterson-Golbow, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Wayne is also survived by the Humphrey Pete’s Bible Study Group, the road crew from 201 and his beloved doctor, Brian Berryman.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Baylor Cancer Center-Texas Oncology who became like family. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the past five and a half years were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank and praise God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday April 8, 2014 at the Bangs First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Looby and Bro. Paul Blake officiating, interment will follow in the Bangs Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00–8:00 P.M. Monday evening at Blaylock Funeral Home.
