The American Southwest Conference today announced its men’s tennis players of the week and Howard Payne’s Chris Sutton was given the honor for the second time this season.
Sutton is a Howard Payne senior and a Brownwood High School graduate. He fueled a 3-0 week against ASC West Division competition by recording wins at No. 2 singles against Schreiner, Sul Ross State and Hardin-Simmons. Sutton, who takes the division’s top weekly honor for the second time this season, also teamed with Raymond Borjas for a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles. Sutton did not drop a set in singles and also helped the Yellow Jackets deal HSU its first division loss.
2008-2009 – Chris went 5-16 at the #1 singles for Howard Payne. He was 2-6 in singles in ASC play. He partnered with Jordan Gilbreath all season in doubles posting an 11-8 record overall and 5-3 in ASC matches. They earned second team All-Conference honors in doubles. He also received Academic All-Conference honors.2007-2008 -Chris had the best overall singles record for the Jackets at 9-6. He had a conference record 4-4. Out of his three doubles partners him and Jordan Gilbreath held the best overall record at 7-4. Chris was named ASC First Team All-West Division.
2006-2007 – Playing in the number one and two spot in singles, Chris had a conference record 3-4. Chris and Ricky Gonzales had a doubles record of 7-2. He was named All-West Division Second Team.
HS- Chris is a 2006 graduate of Brownwood High School where he lettered all four years in tennis. He was named Freshman of the Year and twice received 1st Team All-District honors.
