The American Southwest Conference today announced its women’s soccer players of the week and Howard Payne forward Leslie Jones was honored as the Offensive Player of the Week for her performance this weekend.
Sophomore forward Leslie Jones scored four goals, including three in an ASC-record 2:01 time in a win over Louisiana College. Jones found the back of the net three times from the 9:14-11:15 mark in the first half, breaking the old record of 5:00 set by East Texas Baptist’s Janna Wilson during the 2005 season. Jones also had two shots on goal during a 1-0 win over Mississippi College as HPU produced a 2-0 week.
Leslie led the Lady Jackets with 14 goals as a freshman tying for second in the American Southwest Conference to earn her 1st Team All-Conference honors. She had 5 game winning goals and 1 assist, started in 16 of the 18 games, and played 1,359 minutes for the Lady Jackets.
At North Mesquite High School she was a Technology Students Association National Finalist, as well as a 4-year letterman in soccer and 3-year in volleyball. Her soccer team was Bi-District Champions in 2006 and 2007. Her junior and senior year she was named First Team All-District, as well as her district’s leading scorer in 2009.
Leslie is from Mesquite, Texas. Her parents are Jeff and Kathy Jones. She is a major in Athletic Training.
