Monte Garrett, director of choral activities and associate professor of music at Howard Payne University, has earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin. The degree became official on December 20, 2010, and Dr. Garrett will participate in the May 2011 graduation ceremony at UT.
Dr. Garrett’s treatise was entitled “A Critical Edition of Georg Philipp Telemann’s Missa sopra Christ lag in Todesbanden (TWV 9:3).” The mass is an unpublished “Lutheran mass” (Kyrie and Gloria only), found in manuscript of the Royal Conservatory Library in Brussels, Belgium.
Dr. Garrett joined the HPU faculty in 2001. He earned both the bachelor and master’s degrees in music from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. Prior to his appointment at Howard Payne, he served as choral director at Cisco Junior College.
