Howard Payne University’s Delta Upsilon chapter of the national Tau Beta Sigma sorority recently received the Grace and A. Frank Martin Outstanding Chapter Award at the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma National Convention in Lexington, Kentucky, making it the top chapter in the nation.

Several members of Delta Upsilon and its brother chapter, Zeta Beta, traveled to Lexington for the conference in August after both chapters were selected as finalists during the spring semester.

“I am so proud to be a part of Tau Beta Sigma and have an opportunity to serve with and be around such amazing people,” said Ruby Johnson, president of the HPU chapter. “This organization has taught me to pursue excellence and strive to become great.”

Delta Upsilon competed against chapters from the University of Arkansas, the University of Massachusetts, the University of California, Los Angeles, Georgia Tech University, the University of Missouri, Auburn University and the University of Nebraska, Kearney.

“This award is very difficult to earn, so we’re proud that an organization from Howard Payne was able to do so,” said Johnson.

Zeta Beta competed against chapters from institutions such as the University of Michigan, Kansas State University and the University of Washington.

“Our brothers have been an integral part of our organization and we would not have been able to receive this award without their love, support and dedication for music to flourish,” said Johnson.
