Howard Payne University Faculty Athletic Director Chuck Boland has been selected as a 2014 NCAA Division III FAR Fellow.
Boland, a professor and chair of the Department of Accounting, has been with Howard Payne for 25 years and has served as the Faculty Athletic Representative for the last 15 years. Boland is the fourth ASC Faculty Athletic Representative selected as an NCAA Fellow.Kurt Beron of the University of Texas at Dallas (2010), Tom Williams of Mississippi College (2011) and Will Walker of East Texas Baptist University (2012) are prior NCAA FAR Fellow selections.
“I am grateful that the NCAA selected me,” said Boland. “I plan to take the opportunity to enhance the FAR position and be more noticeable in the athletic-academic circles.”
The FAR Fellows Institute was launched in 2010 and aims to increase the effectiveness of Division III FARs at the campus, conference and national levels.
Institute attendees participate in a three day professional development program at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19. The components of the program provide a thorough examination of best practices and issues surrounding the role and responsibility of the FAR, help FAR Fellows develop the leadership skills necessary to carry out their responsibilities on campus and in their conference, and strengthen the network of FARs needed to serve on conference, divisional and association-wide committees.
