The Howard Payne University volleyball team was honored as a winner of the American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for 2011 fall sports, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Howard Payne claimed the top sportsmanship honor for volleyball in the West Division for the third time. The Lady Jackets also received the award in 2007 and 2008.
The award, in its fifth academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAACs) from the conference’s 16 member institutions vote on the recipients.
The next SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be named after the winter 2011-12 season.
