Much of Texas is suffering from severe drought conditions, and Howard Payne University students are asking others to join them in making choices that will positively impact the environment.
During a recent meeting, the Student Government Association launched an awareness campaign across the HPU campus regarding water conservation. These students are encouraging others to be good stewards of resources by implementing simple changes in their daily routines.
Suggestions include taking shorter showers, turning off the faucet when not needed (such as when brushing teeth), reporting dripping faucets and running toilets, only running full loads of dishes and laundry and participating in the dining area’s “tray-less” initiative, which saves on washing.
“It’s great that SGA is getting involved in promoting water conservation and using their collective voice to bring attention to this important issue,” said Dr. Brent Marsh, vice president for student life. “It will be a good learning opportunity for the entire student body. Hopefully students will realize that their efforts can make a difference.”
HPU’s faculty and staff have joined the effort as well.
“To be good stewards of our water, we encourage everyone to join the Student Government Association’s effort to save water,” said Bill Fishback, assistant vice president for business and human resources.
