The Howard Payne softball team played two double headers on a road trip to southern California this weekend. The Lady Jackets took on opponents, University of LaVerne and Whittier College.
On Friday, Howard Payne dropped a double header to the University of La Verne 1-4, 4-7. Kimble Luna, Ashley Silva and Bianca Ybarra each got hits for HPU in game one. Kayla Castillo was tabbed with the loss for the Lady Jackets.
Game two, HPU jumped out to an early four run lead, scoring two in the first and second innings. La Verne scored runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to win 4-7. Evangelina Tellez recorded three hits and Silva followed with two of her own. Pitcher Baillie Trumble got the loss for HPU.
Saturday, Howard Payne took on Whittier College falling in both games 5-9, 0-9. Game one, HPU held an early 4-0 lead after three innings. Whittier scored two in the fifth and seven in the seventh to take the lead. Six different Lady Jackets recorded hits in the game.
Game two, HPU was held hitless in the 9-0 Whittier win. Baillie Trumble picked up the loss for the Lady Jackets.
Howard Payne is now 1-7 on the year and will play next in the ASC First Pitch Tournament in Plano on March 4th and 5th.
