hpusoccerlogoThe Howard Payne men’s soccer team was unable to rally from a 4-0 first half deficit and fell to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action Saturday afternoon.

UMHB got two early goals from Derek Geels in the 10th and 11th minutes. UMHB then added two addition goals before the half to lead 4-0 at the break.

Howard Payne was outshot 19 to 4 in the game. All of the HPU shots were on goal.

Malcolm Framjee played all 90 minutes in goal for the Jackets recording five saves. UMHB goalkeeper Mark Miller had four saves.

Howard Payne still remains in a strong position for an ASC playoff spot at 9-4-1 overall and 7-4-0 in ASC action. UMHB improves to 11-3-0 overall and 8-3-0 in conference play.

The Jackets will have a non-conference match at home versus the University of Dallas next Tuesday at 4:00 pm.


The Howard Payne women’s soccer team gained a 3-0 lead and held off a late second period push by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to win 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Leslie Jones scored the first goal for HPU on an Erica Lopez assist in the 26th minute. In the second period the Lady Jackets got their next two goals on a Kerrie Ford shot in the 62st minute and from Misty Domingues in the 63rd.

UMHB made a late push scoring on a Kim Wobecky unassisted goal in the 68th minute and a Jordan Powers penalty kick score in the 79th minute.

Adrienne Walker played all 90 minutes in goal for HPU recording five saves. Meredith West had two saves for UMHB.

The Lady Jackets improve to 7-4-3 overall and 6-3-2 in conference action, while UMHB falls to 6-7-1 overall and 5-5-1 in ASC play.

Howard Payne will have a non-conference match next Tuesday at home versus the University of Dallas. It will be a “Pink Out Day” so wear pink and help support breast cancer research.
