Howard Payne University senior Zachary Varner, of Comanche, was recently named recipient of the 2011 Sigma Beta Delta International Business Honor Society Fellowship Award.
The SBD Fellowship Program awarded Varner the $1,000 fellowship to recognize the academic excellence he has demonstrated in his business studies. Trissa Cox, associate professor of computer information systems, serves as the honor society president and nominated Varner for the award.
“Zach is an outstanding student who has a great passion for learning, excelling both in and out of the classroom,” Cox said. “We are very proud that he has been chosen for this award.”
HPU became a charter member of the SBD International Business Honor Society in 1999. Today, more than 350 chapters have been established in 47 states and three international locations. SBD was established to honor students who have attained superior academic records in business programs in schools and colleges with regional accreditation.
Membership is by invitation only to those students who are declared business majors, have completed 60 or more hours and rank in the upper 20 percent of their class.
Varner is majoring in management information systems and is the son of Donald and Lou Varner of Comanche.
