Howard Payne University senior Lacy Culpepper of Zephyr recently received the Sigma Beta Delta Fellowship Award for outstanding student and personal achievement. Nominees for the fellowship award must be enrolled in a business degree program at an accredited university and use the awarded funds in senior- or master-level study.
Dr. Trissa Cox, associate professor of computer information systems and president of HPU’s chapter of Sigma Beta Delta, said she was excited to be part of this opportunity.“We are so proud for Lacy that he has been chosen for this prestigious award and are pleased that Sigma Beta Delta has recognized him in this way,” Dr. Cox said. “Lacy was nominated for this national award due to not only his achievements in the classroom but also to other leadership and interpersonal skills that contribute heavily to his personal and academic success.”
Sigma Beta Delta was founded to recognize outstanding student achievement in the fields of business, management and administration and to promote honorable service to mankind. Recipients of the Sigma Beta Delta fellowship award are chosen based on their achievement in these fields. Past HPU recipients include Jill McLaughlin (2006), Emily (Tittle) Attaway (2008), Cody Hambrick (2010) and Zachary Varner (2011).
“Sigma Beta Delta assists in giving focus to characteristics that we hold in high esteem and that we would like to hold up to our students as worthy of pursuit,” said Dr. Cox. “Lacy is a diligent worker, selfless and willing to serve others and wholeheartedly committed to each of his endeavors.”
Culpepper studies management with an emphasis in finance and has been the recipient of several other scholarships for his displays of academic and leadership skills.
“It was an extreme honor merely to be nominated for the award by my chapter,” he remarked. “Actually receiving it was icing on the cake.”
