Most Howard Payne University students have left Brownwood for the summer, but a variety of camps and programs will continue to bring many visitors to the community. More than 2,000 young people are expected to be on campus throughout June and July.
“Summer is a fun time at HPU,” said Debbie Childs, facilities coordinator. “We are happy to welcome these students and help them to feel at home on the HPU campus.”In addition to band, athletic, JROTC and church camps, HPU will host the Baptist General Convention of Texas’ Super Summer. The program is a leadership training opportunity for Christian young people who are interested in advancing their personal spiritual growth and want to know more about sharing Christ with others.
Several camps for younger students will be held at HPU, including HPU’s Summer Scholars and Young Scholars day camps for students entering first through sixth grades and CentriKid Camp for students in third through sixth grades.
HPU students will facilitate most of the programs. Quinton Poe, a junior from Dripping Springs, serves as the student leader for the summer camp staff.
“This will be my second summer serving on staff and I am looking forward to how God will use this incredible group of people that He has brought together for this purpose,” he said. “It’s going to be a great summer.”
