The Howard Payne University Drama department will be presenting their fall production this week with performances of “The Bourgeois Gentleman” beginning Thursday.
“The Bourgeois Gentleman” is a five act play that is set entirely at the main character’s (Monsieur Jourdain) house in Paris. The rather foolish Jourdain has one aim in life—to rise above this middle-class background and be accepted as an aristocratic gentleman.
To accomplish this goal, he orders new clothes and applies himself to learning the gentlemanly arts of fencing, dancing, music and philosophy. As he makes this attempt, he continually manages to make a fool of himself, to the disgust of his hired teachers.
HPU always seems to keep the bar high with their productions, and “The Bourgeois Gentleman” is no exception. Beautiful consumes and an array of talent will dazzle the audience.
Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:30pm at HPU. Reservations may be made by calling 325-649-8516.
