Howard_Payne_logosmallHoward Payne University has named Dr. Lynn Little, of Plano, as the new Dean of the School of Science and Mathematics.

“We are excited to have recruited Dr. Little to the faculty,” said Dr. William Mark Tew, vice president for academic affairs.  “After conducting a national search, assisted by Performa Higher Education, the dean search committee invited to campus and interviewed three highly qualified candidates. I am confident that the extraordinary work already being done in the School of Science and Mathematics will be enhanced greatly by Dr. Little’s leadership.”

Little brings more than 25 years of academic teaching and administrative experience to his new role at HPU. For the past 18 years, he has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. During that time, he served as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs from 1994-2007. He has also concurrently held the position of National Faculty Member in Leadership and Health Care Education at Nova Southeastern University since 1991.

He has earned five degrees, including a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Little was a postdoctoral fellow for the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School and a Research Fellow in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston. He also holds a Bachelor of Science from The University of Texas at Arlington, Master of Science from The University of North Texas, Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Dallas, and Master of Public Health from The University of Texas School of Public Health.

Having been published in numerous academic journals, Little was also a columnist for nine years writing on “Lessons in Leadership.” In 2002, he co-authored a book with T.R. McDaniel entitled “Lessons in Leadership: An Anthology of Column’s by Magna’s Experts in Higher Education Leadership.”

He and his wife, Mimi, have two children – Chip and Lanna.
