Sixteen students from Howard Payne University are going on a music tour throughout the Metroplex from January 28-31. The group is a compilation of eight piano majors, four singers and four instrumentalists. They will be accompanied by Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, professor of music.
According to Dr. Wallace, the purpose of the trip is, “to share our love of music, minister through worship and be ambassadors for HPU.”
They have prepared secular and sacred piano solos and duets, vocal solo and ensemble works and numbers for piano and instruments. There will also be jazz combo pieces that will be performed at the various venues.
The tour itinerary is as follows: On Thursday, Jan. 28, the students will perform at Ovilla Christian School in Red Oak from 1:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Friday the group will perform at Quo Vadis Christian Academy/Household of Faith Church in Garland at 7:30 p.m.Saturday’s performance will be held at Steinway Hall in Fort Worth beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The final two performances will be held on Sunday. In the morning, the HPU group will be playing in the 10:50 a.m. service at First Baptist Church, Grand Prairie. Then, they will hold a concert beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Hampton Road Baptist Church in DeSoto.
Students participating in the tour include Christopher Bell, Elizabeth Bates, Olivia Berry, Leanne Bledsoe, Cara Craggett, Tabitha Davies, Samantha Fenwick, Julia Hironaga, Tabitha Livingston, Chelsea Murphree, Matthew Ramirez, Kris Redus, Rebekah Sherrod, Andrew Stallsworth, David Watson and Kaitlyn Zachary.
