The Howard Payne men’s soccer team got two second half goals to defeat Mississippi College 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Jackets and Choctaws were tied at 1-1 at the midway point. Shane Cazad got HPU on the board in the 32nd minute.
Jaime Benitez scored both goals in the second half for HPU. Benitez tied the game in the 77th minute and then scored the game winner in the 86th minute.
Howard Payne outshot Mississippi College 18-8 in the game.
7-6 overall and 6-4 in ASC play while MC falls to 9-3-3, 4-2-3 in ASC action. The Jackets will be in action next Friday and Saturday at home versus McMurry and Hardin-Simmons.

Starter Allison Gudmundson and Kaitlyn Kelm both spend time in goal for Howard Payne holding MC scoreless after regulation and two overtimes. Gudmundson records 3 saves and Kelm gets 5 in the scoreless tie.
Mississippi College outshot Howard Payne 29 to 10 in the game. Leslie Jones got off two of the three HPU shots on goal.
HPU now stands at 6-6-2 overall and 5-3-2 in ASC play. They will be in action next weekend at home playing McMurry on Friday and Hardin-Simmons on Saturday.
