hpubaseballThe Howard Payne University softball team split a conference double header 2-7 and 2-0 with Schreiner University Monday afternoon.

After committing three errors in game one, Howard Payne found themselves down 7-0 after two innings. HPU would get their two runs in the top of the fourth on an Evangelina Tellez singled scoring Tylene Middleton and an Amanda Gober single to score Brittany Johnson. Baillie Trumble got the loss for HPU.

In game two, the Lady Jackets scored two runs on three hits in the second and third innings. After a Katie Poerner triple in the second, a Tellez single would bring her home. In the next inning, it was a Middleton single that would score Haleigh Caraway. Baillie Trumble got the win throwing six scoreless innings only giving up two hits.

 

Both teams now have a 5-8 overall record and will finish out their series with a double header on Tuesday.

 


 

The Howard Payne University baseball team fell 8-2 in the series finale with Concordia University Texas Monday afternoon in conference action.

Concordia scored seven unanswered runs over the first five innings of the game. Howard Payne would score in the sixth when Houston Holmes single

d through the right side to bring home Jordan Hammontree. The Jackets added another run in the top of the next inning. This time it was Hammontree pushing one through the left side to score Dustin Cole. Concordia added one more run in the next frame and went on to win 8-2.

Jonathan Morris got the loss for HPU throwing 7.0 innings, giving up seven runs on 10 hits. Morris also had four strikeouts with two walks. Kyler Payne and Dustin Kelver also saw time in relief. Sam Dollahite, Carlton Brown, Hammontree each had two hits for HPU. Despite the loss, the Jackets again out hit Conncordia 11-10.

Howard Payne now stands at 5-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play. #18 Concordia improves to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in conference. The Jackets will have a non-conference game with Southwestern University on Tuesday at Don Shepard Park. The start time has been pushed back to 3:00 pm.
