Howard Payne University hosted a band camp last week which drew students from across the state to further develop their musical and marching skills.
According to camp coordinator Corey Ash, 251 students, including one member from Kansas, spent the week at HPU. 48 schools were represented, with all area schools attending.Ash stated that attendees learned leadership and marching skills and participated in a concert band. There were also other fun activities during the camp, including a rock concert and game night.
The number of students attending was slightly less than years past according to Ash, which may have had something to do with the quality of students attending this year.
“The kids have been amazing, we’ve had no problems, and they are a very responsible group,” said Ash. “They are a good example of the quality of our area students. The area band directors have done a great job.”
Friday morning, the students performed in the annual camp exhibition. Pictured above and below are some of the participants at the exhibition.
