Howard_Payne_logosmallThe Eighth Annual Service of Lessons and Carols presented by Howard Payne University’s Heritage Singers will be presented on Saturday, December 12. Through scripture readings and music, the service reflects on the wonder and mystery of the birth of Jesus. The scriptures will be read by members of HPU’s faculty and staff.

The service will begin at 8:00 p.m., at St. John’s Episcopal Church. It is free and open to the public.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at King’s College, Cambridge, was first held on Christmas Eve 1918. The service was first broadcast in 1928 and with the exception of 1930, has been broadcast annually, even during the Second World War, when the ancient glass had been removed from the Chapel.

Heritage Singers is under the direction of Mr. Monte Garrett, director of choral activities, and accompanied by organist Dr. Allen Reed, professor of music and artist in residence.
