The local chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Howard Payne University was recently nominated as a finalist for a prestigious national honor within their organization – the William Scroggs Founders Trophy.
Greek life is full of excitement on Howard Payne University’s campus right now. February 15 marked the first day of “pledging” for most of the Greek organizations on campus. However, one particular fraternity is celebrating much more. The national council of their fraternity named the Zeta Beta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity as a national chapter leadership finalist this past week. With over 200 chapters in the nation, only 18 were selected as chapter leadership finalist. Howard Payne’s chapter was one of those 18 and the smallest of the schools on the list. It is also one of three nominated in their district, consisting of New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana. Other schools selected include The University of Oklahoma, Auburn University, The University of Texas at Austin, Iowa State University, and Michigan State University.
To be considered for the award, the school must have made outstanding contributions to their band programs and maintained an extraordinary level of commitment to the purposes and values of Kappa Kappa Psi. HPU’s chapter purchased a brand new trailer in April for the band program amongst many other things including the upcoming purchase of new lockers for the school’s tubas.
The brothers of the Zeta Beta chapter at HPU will have the opportunity to make a presentation at the national convention in Colorado in July and hopefully bring home what is know as the “William Scroggs Founders Trophy”, the most prestigious award the fraternity gives out every two years to the outstanding chapter in the nation. This is the third time HPU’s chapter has been nominated for this award.
