Captains, seniors and position players of the year were honored at the Howard Payne University football team’s annual football banquet this past Thursday evening.
Demetrius Cody received three of the top team awards for the Yellow Jackets. He was honored as the Senior of the Year, Most Valuable Player and the Yellow Jacket award winner. The Yellow Jacket Award is given to a student-athlete that is an outstanding athlete and their ability as a leader contributes greatly to their team. It suggests leadership and effort that is above and beyond. It also suggests respect from one’s team. Cody also received 2nd Team All-Conference honors from the American Southwest Conference.
Cote Schacherl who led the American Southwest Conference and all the NCAA III in punting was honored with the Specialist of the Year award. Schacherl broke the ASC record for career punting yardage and was honored as a 1st Team All-Conference selection.
The Most Inspirational Player award went to Victor Gonzales “For exemplifying the ideals of Yellow Jacket Football in the areas of leadership, citizenship, and athletic ability”
